We are facing that very difficult decision in our home right now- where are we going to send our kids to school? The choices are many- do we send Amelie to our local school that is still struggling to find solid parent involvement, do we put her name in the lottery for the charter school that offers dual language, do we pioneer a new charter school starting in our neighborhood, or do we look into private and hope for scholarship? I was thinking about all these choices this morning when I got an email from Sara Brinton, our Noonday Ambassador who is serving alongside the Matilda Jane Clothing team in Rwanda.
After several days of travel, the team met the seamstresses at the airport upon arrival and went to their new workshop. Sara immediately connected with one of the seamstress, Asha. Asha is a widow and a mother of four – two by birth and two she is caring for because their mother died. Before working with Jennifer and Noonday, she had to decide which of her four children to send to school. Having this opportunity in front of her will give her the chance to send all of her kids to school.

Out of all the school choices we face, NONE of them is that one child gets an education and one of them doesn’t. Yet this is a common story for those in the developing world where education, supplies, and mandatory uniforms, make it impossible for some to send their kids to school.
At Noonday Collection, we believe in creating opportunity for families to provide for themselves through the work of their hands. Through your purchases, you enable people like Asha to send all her kids to school. Their collection launches in September and will be sold through Noonday Collection trunk shows and Matilda Jane clothing online Platinum store. They are creating some mighty cute things!
