You know Noonday Collection has had me jumping off many cliffs. Helping to start this sewing group in Rwanda is one of them! My friend Jennifer said the women in her neighborhood had one main need- work- and could Noonday help facilitate them learning a skill that could provide them with a meaningful job? Below you can see me meeting these women. To me, they represent Jack’s biological mom. I will never know the woman who brought me the most precious of gifts, but partnering with these women, in particular, helps me somehow feel connected to her.
But I am not going to lie- sitting in Jennifer’s house in Rwanda that day saying “I hope we can provide a marketplace for your goods,” took some faith. I sent out an email asking you all to help send them through school. And you sponsored them within 24 hours (you know who you are and YOU are awesome!). Ugh- oh- this was for real! Their graduation would come quickly, what should we do next?
Meet Matilda Jane. Matilda Jane has been clothing our Amelie in their whimsical style since she could fit into their clothes (there she is below in her first MJC). I posted a little something on our Noonday Facebook page about us being a perfect fit and, providentially, Denise- the head honcho at Matilda Jane got wind of it. We started emailing, they “happened” to be doing a shoot in Austin, so we got together over margaritas at Chuy’s .
Denise takes great delight in seeing other people’s dreams come true. Three of the girls on her MJC team were dying to go to Africa. Denise was determined to see this become a reality for them while also helping Noonday create a path out of poverty for these new seamstresses. We are giddy to announce the “in the works” Matilda Jane for Noonday Collection accessories line currently in the dream stage. If you want to help send the MJC girls over to Rwanda, then shop the Platinum Collection. Sales from this line will send them on the trip where they will collaborate with our new seamstresses to knock your socks off with some fun new accessories (to be launched Fall 2012)!
Jennifer had a dream for the women in her neighborhood to work, the women in her neighborhood had a dream for a better life, I had a dream to partner with the women where Jack was born, Denise had a dream to get her team to Africa, and the MJC girls’ dream of getting to Africa is around the corner! Want to dream with us? Host a trunk show, consider becoming an Ambassador, and purchase our products. You can be a part of many women’s dreams becoming a reality. Look what happens when women dream!
